Both private and public institutions
in Malaysia require basic academic qualifications before
considering student applications. Below is information about
admissions and language testing requirements at the
undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Entry
Requirements for a Bachelor Degree. The common minimum
qualifications are the GCE ‘A’ & GCSE ‘O’ Levels, or the
Malaysian equivalents. Malaysian private institutions will also
consider foreign students who have the required post-secondary
qualifications from their own countries. Thus, depending on your
qualifications and their recognition, you can enter to do
Pre-University or Foundation Studies for Bachelor Degree Courses
or be accepted directly into the degree programme.
Entry
Requirements for Post-Graduate Studies. For
post-graduate studies the entry requirement is essentially a
recognized Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification
and/or some working experience. For foreign universities, the
entry requirements depend on the requirements of the host
university.
English Language Requirement.
Since English is the language of instruction at private colleges
and universities, students are expected to have adequate
knowledge and comprehension of English. Various international
examinations like TOEFL, IELTS, GCE 1119, Certified Intensive
English Program (CIEP) Level 109 and English Languages Skills
Assessment (ELSA) are seen as proof of English proficiency for
entrance into academic courses. Individual institutions can
provide information on which tests and scores they require.
